The Process

We think style doesn’t have to come at the expense of the environment. That’s why we founded Bare. We engage in highly sustainable practices at every step of production, so you can look good and feel good.

Made in Singapore, our pieces are designed to be trans-seasonal, with controlled production runs optimised to demand. Every step of our process goes through strict checks and balances to ensure it complies with our sustainability standards.

We place innovation at our forefront as we attempt to reinvent everyday silhouettes while treading lightly in the world we live in.

Design & Conceptualisation

We pride ourselves on making clothes with classic designs that endure the tide of time. Our silhouettes and sizes are based off real women – the people who will wear our clothes – and not mannequins and sample sizes. We also consider the tropical climate during our design process. Wearing our pieces should feel like a respite from the hot, humid, and sometimes volatile weather, making you look and feel cool no matter the season.

Fabric

In the process of selecting fabric for our pieces, we opt for those that have as little environmental impact as possible. Factors we consider include things like high resource efficiency and little to zero need for pesticides. Besides how it are grown and milled, we also make sure the chosen fabric is highly resilient and durable, so that it can last you guys a lifetime. And if it’s decomposable or biodegradable, you know we’re down for it.

More information about the fabric we use can be found on the individual product pages.

Dyeing Process

The textile industry disposes large quantities of water into the environment, which include residual synthetic dyes derived from crude oil. Wastewater from dyeing processes are released into areas surrounding production facilities, polluting our land and water and affecting ecosystems.

At Bare, we utilise fabric that gets its colour from plant matter. Natural dyes are made with lower temperatures, thus lowering energy consumption and reducing processing times by 30%. Waste matter emitted during the process is also biodegradable and can be repurposed.

We won’t bore you with the science stuff. But if you’re interested, hop on over here for more information.

Production & Labour

Our clothing is designed and made in Singapore. With our production facility located right where we are, we can maintain strict standards in the quality of our garments and the environment that our team works under. We have a close relationship with our production team and our clothing pieces are a result of this collaborative craftsmanship.

Sustainability also means optimising supply to demand and reducing dead-stock. We focus on small batch production and prefer to dedicate our efforts to ensuring the quality of each piece. This eliminates the waste from hedging against uncertainties involved in the entire process, as we look to achieve just-in-time production.

Packaging

Sometimes, it’s best to keep things simple. We deliver your purchases to you in classic kraft envelopes – which keep chemical treatment to a minimum. They also take up much less space than regular die-cut boxes too, making them more fuel-efficient to deliver. Other packaging collaterals like our seal stickers and thank you cards are made of compostable, bio-based, and biodegradable materials. We do our best to get your purchases to you with as little environmental impact as possible, so if you have any suggestions on how we can improve, let us know how.
